
LHS Chess Club Wins Regional Invitational
The LHS Chess Club took home first place at the Spring Regional Invitational, with three players finishing in the top five overall standings.
This past weekend, the LHS Chess Club competed in the Spring Regional Invitational hosted at Westfield High School, and the results were nothing short of historic. Facing off against 14 other schools from across the county, our team rose to the challenge and secured first place in the team standings.
Standout Performances
Junior Marcus Rivera led the charge with a perfect 5-0 score on Board 1, earning him the individual gold medal and pushing his USCF rating past the 1800 mark for the first time. Sophomore Priya Nair followed closely behind with a 4.5/5 performance on Board 2, while freshman Daniel Cho surprised everyone with a 4/5 finish on Board 3 in his first competitive tournament.
What's Next
With this win, the club has officially qualified for the State Championships taking place in May. Practices will be ramping up to twice a week starting next Monday. All chess team members should check the schedule page for updated meeting times.
