Overview
The LHS Chess Club website ("we," "us," or "the club") is a non-commercial website operated by the LHS Chess Club at Livingston High School. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By creating an account or using this site, you agree to the practices described below.
Information We Collect
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name and email address
- Club role (member, chess team, marketing, etc.)
- Profile photo (optional)
- Chess preferences — favorite piece, favorite opening
- USCF and FIDE player IDs (optional, chess team members only)
- Social links — Instagram, Twitter/X (optional)
- A short profile bio (optional)
Through normal use of the site, we also collect:
- Messages posted in Community and Team Chat
- Responses to club forms and polls
- Photos uploaded to the gallery
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to operate the club website:
- Displaying your profile on the Members page
- Showing ratings fetched from USCF / FIDE / Chess.com / Lichess using your provided IDs
- Listing you as a tutor on the Tutoring page if you opt in
- Sending club announcements and event notifications by email
- Enabling real-time community and team chat
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes.
Who Can See Your Information
Public — Your name and role appear on the public Members page. If you opt into tutoring, your tutor profile is publicly visible.
Members only — Full profile details, USCF/FIDE IDs, and social links are visible to logged-in club members.
Board only — Your email address is only visible to board members and the club advisor.
Private — Your password is never stored in plain text. Community and Team Chat messages are visible to club members; Team Chat is restricted to chess team members and board.
Third-Party Services
This site uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. Your data is stored on Supabase servers.
- Vercel — website hosting and deployment.
- Sanity — content management for news and blog posts (no personal data stored).
- USCF / FIDE / Chess.com / Lichess — public rating APIs, queried using IDs you provide.
These services have their own privacy policies. We do not control their data practices.
Data Retention
Your account and associated data are retained for as long as the club website is active or until you request deletion. Chat messages and form responses may be retained for club record-keeping even after account deletion.
Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Edit or remove your profile information in the Dashboard under "My Profile"
- Request full account deletion by emailing us
- Opt out of the tutoring listing by disabling it in the Tutoring tab

Children's Privacy
This website is intended for high school students (ages 14 and up) and their families. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately at lhschessprogram@gmail.com and we will delete the account.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the website evolves. Significant changes will be announced via a club announcement. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
